Hello and Welcome!
Thank you for joining us here at the Buildify blog. Welcome to Buildify and The Buildify Method.
My name is Aaron Keith, and I will be leading the conversation around this this topic.
First off, I want to welcome you and thank you being a part of the Buildify family. I know you have a very busy life and I really appreciate your interest in learning and growing as a business owner & entrepreneur!
Before we get into the content of this specific blog topic, I would like to explain why I created Buildify & The Buildify Method.
I created Buildify because this allows me to do what I love to do, which is teach business owners how to better own and operate a successful business. In each blog we will do a deep dive into very specific topics and distinctions that make up The Buildify Method.
I also created these blogs because I feel it’s very important for business owners to make time to learn tangible skills that they can take back to their companies the very next day!
I believe it’s very important for business owners to be constantly looking for ways to better own and operate their business. And I designed each of these blog topics to do just that.
And those are the reasons why I created Buildify and all the resources under its umbrella! …with that in mind, let’s get to work!
The topic of this specific blog is on… “Expand your Mental, Emotional & Physical Capacity as a Business Owner!”
The intention that we are out to fulfill on in this blog discussion is…“That you uncover what is impeding your current capacity, and understand how it’s effecting the growth and consistency of your business”
Tonight we are going to be working with a particular Distinction called “Capacity”.
Let’s start by getting on the same page as to what Capacity is.
So what is Capacity?
Here is a Capacity Example:
If your cup holds 8 oz. of water and you are trying to put 10 oz. of Money, or Clients into your cup what’s going to happen?
…it’s not going to fit, and it’s going to Spills over!
That is what’s happening to many you in your business. You are trying to add more Customers, more Money, more Staff but you cant handle what you already have, so when you get more it spills over and goes away! And then you get frustrated and upset that you don’t have more.
If you want to handle 10 oz. of Customers, Money, etc. you need to expand your cup!
At Buildify we teach business through The Buildify Method that is made up of a bundle of distinctions that we have developed. One of our favorite distinctions is the distinction of “Capacity”.
The Buildify Distinction of Capacity – Capacity is; to the degree that you can handle what you have now with integrity, is it to the same degree in which you can have more of it.
Capacity is distinguished by what you can handle while keeping Balance in place consistently over time; both mentally, emotionally & physically.
What do you hear inside of that Distinction?
Now let’s talk about what happens when your Capacity gets diminished.
What are some symptoms of having your Capacity diminished, in your business?
Some symptoms of a diminished Capacity are…
- Income is very inconsistent month-to-month.
- Your business has plateaued.
- When your business reaches that next level, you can’t stay there and you end up back-sliding to where you were.
Understanding this distinction will give you the ability to diagnose why your business is inconsistent and what is holding you back from being able to reach that next level and keep it there!
Our “Capacity” can be insufficient or diminished in several different ways.
What are some of the ways in which our Capacity can be insufficient or diminished?
If we sum up what often gets discussed, most things would fall into one of three categories. “Mentally capacity”, “Emotionally capacity”, “Physically capacity”.
Let’s flesh out what I mean by each of these Category’s:
Mental Capacity = knowledge & information.
Emotional Capacity = emotions & feelings.
Physical Capacity = something material, tangible, or structural
What is an example having a diminished – Mental Capacity?
…Not knowing how to properly use a budget.
What is an example of having a diminished – Emotional Capacity?
…Being stressed out and overwhelmed by the end of your day.
What is an example of having a diminished – Physical Capacity?
…Not staying on top of returning phone calls & emails within 24 hours.
In this blog we are going to uncover what is keeping your business from being consistent, and what is keeping your business from reaching that next level and staying there.
To do this we need to uncover what is diminishing your Capacity. We are going to take several different cuts at this, which will reveal the different blocks that have been affecting your business.
We are about to do an exercise and you will want to write down what you uncover as we go through this process.
We are going to look at each Area of your business from 3 different perspectives to uncover what your Capacity Blocks are.
This will give you a well-rounded view of what is diminishing your capacity in each area of your business.
Note: To get the most from this work you really need to be brutally honest with yourself, and really be insightfully straight!
EXERCISE:
Here are the directions of how to do this exersisse on your capacity.
- Go Area by area listed below.
- Write down under each area the answer to the following question…
Where have you reached your Physical, Mental &/or Emotional Capacity?
AREA’S:
Management: (Projections, Goal Setting, Planning, Monitoring systems, Meetings,
Pilot Projects, Supervising, Legal, Taxes)
Administration: (Personnel/hire/fire/job description & training, Facilities, Communications,
General Admin/database/filing/inventory.)
Finance: (Budgeting, Banking, Financial Reports, Bookkeeping, Financial Projections)
Marketing: (Marketing Materials, Marketing Plan, Public Relations, Web Presence)
Sales: (Agreements, Scripts, Follow-up, Sales Goals, Tracking)
Production: (Scheduling, Control Systems, Supplies – Inventory, Delivery)
Quality Assurance: (Complaint Handling, Follow-up, Correction, Monitoring)
Now if you look at everything you wrote down, those are the Blocks that are impeding & diminishing your capacity.
If those blocks don’t get handled you will have a hard time getting your business to that next level… and stay there.
Now that we have uncovered the things that have been diminishing your capacity and holding you back from having a more successful and stable business.
The next thing we need to do is to put Solutions into place that will address these items and expand your capacity.
Directions:
Here is what we are going to do next; you are going to go area by area and you are going to write down Solutions that you can put in place to address these blocks, which will allow you to then expand your capacity in those areas.
Let’s recap what we have covered up to this point.
We have identified the blocks that have been diminishing your Capacity in each area of your Business. Then we came up with Solutions to address those blocks.
There is still one particular Block that I want to specifically address.
This block is a very powerful block that dramatically effects our capacity and it’s not often addressed.
That block is “The lack of Balance”!
The lack of Balance is one of the largest blocks that prevent us from expanding our capacity and being able to handling more!
Think of some examples, where the lack of balance is diminishing your capacity?
When balance is lacking, what you are demonstrating is that you can’t handle what you have.
If your business is growing and you are working a lot and you stop exercising and eating good. You end up getting burned out. That way of operating diminishes your capacity.
Vs.
As your business grows, you keep to your schedule and you exercise and you make time to eat properly, that keeps your capacity expanding so that your business can continue to expand.
This is a very important Area that you will want to keep a close eye on as your business grows over the years.
We have talked a lot about your capacity and tonight you have identified blocks that have been diminishing your capacity in each area of your business.
Your Homework now is to go and come up with solutions to all of those blocks in each of the areas. By doing this Homework, you will be expanding your capacity which will directly impact the growth and consistency of your business!
